Photo etching and manual forming

Photo etching is a cutting process that consists to chemically mill unprotected metallic surfaces. Very similar to the etching technique used to etch electronic circuits, this process has sharp tolerances and allows facing low volume needs, mainly for Board Level Shielding – BLS.
The manual forming is the complementary step to the photo etching : it consists to bend, using soft tooling, the etched pieces in order to realize the frame and/or cover of the BLS. This process is limited for low volume (prototyping, pre-series) and has to be replaced with machine bending/embossing for high run production.
